One day I was walking down the road
And I came upon a Toad
I said "Where are you going my brother?"
He said "I don't know? I'm looking for the secret of life."
So I took him by the hand
And said "Why don't you come with me man?"

So we walked together
And we walked for a long, long time
I put my thumb out
And started looking for a ride
A truck stopped up along the side of the road
Sitting behind the wheel was Clark Gable

He said "Hey boys do you want a ride?"
So we jumped right in
And the three of us were looking for the secret of life

Soon we came upon the City of Angels
There were crowds everywhere
People were throwing stones and shooting guns
And Molotov cocktails were the drink of the day

I said "My friends this is strange
Why do they fight amongst each other the way they do?"
Clark stopped the truck and grabbed a man by the hair
He said "What are you doing there?
Beating that man, for no reason I can see?"
The brother said "Can't you see?
He's not the same color as me."

The Toad said "Let the man go!
This is not the City of Angels!
This is the City of Sin!
Let us resume our trip again.
I can't stand to see men shoot men."

Beyond the hills were clouds of love,
Surely sent from the man above.
My feet were tired, my tongue was dry,
Clark said "John that is no lie.
An oasis now would help the search.
It's the secret of life where we'll find the church."

We searched the temple, yes we searched it well,
Behind the large red doors, were stairs to hell.
The Toad said "No this is not our place!"
I said "Man Oh Man! I want to see Satan's face!"
I fell down the stairs and broke both feet.
Now there I lay in that dirty heat.

A Spirit came by, he said "My son, my son'
I said "Help me leave I'm the only one,
That passed thorough the doors to nowhere!"
He said "Time stands still there's no reason to leave.
I'm just on my way to the End of the Universe."

We floated along on clouds of steel.
We passed Moses and Jesus.
We passed Hammurabi and Hitler.
I saw all that I could see.
I even seen me.
The Spirit was right, Time stood still.
We came to a river, the River of Nil.

Souls floated down stream,
And you could hear the screams.
Terror rang in my ears and blinded my eyes,
He said "These are the souls of people who spoke lies"
He said "Follow me now and you'll learn some more
We'll take a trip through the next red door"

The door turned blue as we walked through,
And the sky above was green.
Souls were flying in the sky,
And the tears they cried,
Rained like angels upon hell.
The Spirit spoke in a weary voice.
He said "These are the people who could not love.
The souls of those you see above"

We fell down a cave surrounded by thorns,
And the thistles ripped my skin.
I said "Look at me now, I follow you down!
And this is the shape I'm in!
Fly from me and let me be!
So I'll die and float away!"
He said "The trip is not over.
Your blood makes you sober.
Now I'll lead you to Lucifer's den"

The heat became hotter as my chest was shattered
While I scraped the rocks of misery
When I looked up, seated in red,
And surrounded by clouds of smoke
Was Satan laughing, screaming with glee
He said "John, let us take a toke
Off the pipe of Death and watch the souls
That lay beneath my feet and loathe
Watch them writhe, yet watch them praise ,
The one they truly love

Be my friend, I'll be your mentor
I'll show you ways to win
Surely you know it's better to rule in Hell
Than it is to serve in Heaven"
I said "No!...No, let me go!
I don't want to hear your slander

The air turned black
The walls had cracked
And his face was glowing with anger
I ran and I ran
Yet the harder I tried
The slower my pace became

I said "Clark come help me!
Grab my hand!
Lead me from this Land!"
The Toad had showed
He grabbed the Demon
And lead him by the hand
He dragged him over the rocks of misery
To the Promised Land

He screamed in pain
The Lords' name in vain
And Gods' fist came out of the sky
He smite the Demon
And drowned his head
But Beelzebub turned to flee

He said "I'm traveling back!
Yes I'm going back!
To the city of Galilee!
I will kill your son!
I will murder the Man!
That is to save the world from me!

God turned his back
"So let it be!
Time you cannot change!"

I cried blue tears,
And my eyes fell out.
Then Yahweh called my name.
He said "John don't cry,
My Son will die.
But my love for you will live"
He said "Spread the word, the word of Me.
Now join your friends again"

So me and Clark and the Toad rejoiced.
We truly heard the voice.
We went our ways,
And lived many days.
And found the secret of life was Faith.
For Faith began the universe,
And that same Faith will end it all.
